Eliminating Gender Based Violence Against Indigenous Pastroralist Women and Girls in Isiolo County
Posted on 13 September, 2023
The elimination of gender-based violence (GBV) against pastoralist women and girls in Isiolo County, Kenya, is not just a moral imperative but a fundamental step towards achieving social justice and community progress. Isiolo's pastoralist communities, with their deep-rooted traditions and cultural nuances, have unfortunately perpetuated practices that undermine the rights and freedoms of women and girls. From female genital mutilation to forced early marriages, these harmful traditions have held back half of the community's potential. Moreover, these practices not only infringe on individual rights but stifle socio-economic progress, preventing these women and girls from accessing education, employment, and leading autonomous lives. Eliminating GBV in Isiolo would pave the way for a brighter, more equitable future for the entire community, fostering an environment where every individual, regardless of gender, can thrive and contribute to the well-being and prosperity of the county.
